If you a non-exchange student?

International non-exchange students are required to submit their application to the School of International Education (SIE) directly, without having to go through the International Relations department. For more information about SIE, please visit their site, or email: sie@uibe.edu.cn .

If you are an exchange student?

 

You are an exchange student if UIBE has signed a study abroad program or exchange study agreement with your academic institution. Please check here for our updated list of exchange agreements. If you don't find your University in the list, don't worry, it only means you are a non-exchange student.

 

A) Exchange students are required to submit their applications to UIBE's Department of International Relations (DIR), it's best if you go through your originating University.


B) A letter of recommendation, signed by a faculty/staff member of your originating UNiversity is required before consideration by the department of international relations.

For exchange student candidates only, the application materials will be copied and the originals sent to the School of International Education (SIE), which is responsible for admissions processing of all international students, both exchange and non-exchange students. Exchange students are those nominated by the institutions which have student exchange agreement with UIBE. Contact the International Office of your home institution for information and submit application through them to the Department of International Relations of UIBE.

2. Choose a program

UIBE offers both degree and non-degree programs to international students.

Note:  Study under most of the exchange programs except the dual-degree programs will not lead to a UIBE degree. For dual-degree students, please contact the International Office of the sending institutions. List of dual-degree programs.

 

3. Submit your application

Deadline for Application:
For fall semester (approximately late August or early September to late December or mid January): April 10 -June 10.


For Spring semester (approximately late February or early March to late mid July): October 8 -November 30.


For Degrees programs with English as the language of instruction, please check with the Program Manager of the specific programs, for example: School of International Trade & Economics, School of Business .

What else you need to do :

 
  1. Arrange and purchase your health insurance.

  2. UIBE has a clinic that with you student ID you will get some physical examinations and medical service but you are still required to have medical coverage for you may be transferred to some hospitals for serious sickness and operations.
    You can find health insurance in your own country, or go through UIBE's selected health insurance provider when you register.

     

  3. Apply for a student visa.

  4. Please go to the nearest Chinese Consulate with your passport, visa application form, letter of admission and JW202 form and other required documents for student visa application. The visas shall be “X” or “F” according to the period of study.

     

  5. Pack your things.

Check your package and make sure that you have the followings with you:

    1. Passport with valid visa

    2. Letter of Admission

    3. JW202 form

    4. Approval of your health insurance or physical examinations

    5. Credit cards and cash of RMB 1500 for housing deposit and personal use upon arrival.

    6. Clothes and other personal daily-use products.

You're Here! What to do upon arrival

5 easy steps

 

  1. Transportation to UIBE:
  2. UIBE is located in North East Beijing, 25 kilometers from the Capital Airport. Taking a taxi costs RMB 80-100 and should last about 30 minutes.

  3. Accommodation:

  4. Check in with the student residence at the reception with the letter of admission and your passport, pay a deposit for campus accommodation, or find off-campus accommodation; obtain the resident permit.

     

  5. Attend the orientation for exchange students - exchange student only:

  6. Before register, the Department of International Relations will offer an orientation program that include meeting with the Study Abroad Coordinator, introduction to the registration process, assistance to course selection and adapting to the new surroundings. Regularly the orientation will be on the first date of registration.

    Get information about the International Yuban Association from the admissions office; IYA is an association of friendship created by Chinese and international students, the IYA will help you settle down, get your bearings, and solve problems.

     

  7. Register at the School of International Education:

  8. Every international student is required to register with the School of International Education before sit in any class. Passport, letter of admission, JW202 form, photos, evidence of health insurance and results of physical examinations are required.
    A guideline schedule for registration, processing documents, and so on will be sent to you along with the letter of admission.

     

  9. Register for the courses:

Language students are required to take a language test before registering for the regular Chinese language courses.


Degree students will need to choose their courses for the particular program they're applying for.


Registration of exchange student courses need to be approved by the Study Abroad Coordinator of the Department of International Relations of UIBE.

Your accommodation at UIBE

 

 

You have many options for accommodation.

 

1. On-campus accommodation:


UIBE offers the following kinds of on-campus accommodation (http://www.uibe.cn/english/zhsh.html):

    1. Twin-occupancy rooms in Building 5 (Huicai Economy Dormitory) with common kitchen and common bathrooms with shower facilities.

    2. Twin-occupancy rooms in Building 6 (Huibin House) with common living room, common kitchen and private bathroom with shower facilities.

    3. Twin-occupancy apartments in Building 0 and Building 5 (Huide Apartment and Huicai Apartment) with living room, kitchen and private bathroom with shower facilities.

    4. Three-occupancy/four-occupancy apartments in Building 0 (Huide Apartment) with living room, kitchen and private bathroom with shower facilities.

These rooms are equipped with air-conditioners and furnished with a desk, chair, desk lamp, wardrobe, bed, pillow and linen for each student. Refrigerators are available at an extra cost. In-room access to internet is available at an additional cost of 150 RMB/month.


Note: Due to heavy demand, apartments are commonly shared with another students. If you would like to avoid this, or would like to choose your own roommates consider the off-campus option.

2. Off-campus accommodation:


If you wish to find your own accommodation, you are welcome to do so. You will find plenty of real estate agents around the campus. Give yourself plenty of time, we recommend you arrive at least 10 days before orientation day at the beginning of the semester. There are also a few hotels around.

 

The School of International Education will assist you as much as possible, but it is your responsibility to find alternative accommodation.

 

For additional resources, try the UIBE BBS, where you might try to make some friends. Although the site is in Chinese, most students at UIBE speak English very well, part of their entrance requirements into UIBE, and are EXTREMELY friendly. So be adventurous and try making some friends who might help you find some accommodation!


Remember: students finding off-campus accommodation are required to submit a resident permit issued by the local police station when registering. To get such a permit, you need to go to the police station with the owner of the residence and bring with you : the rental contact, your passport, UIBE's letter of enrollment and the owner’s ID.

OK, so you have most of the administrative stuff out of the way. Now you're getting ready to come, but you still have a million questions. Well here are a million answers, well... not quite one million.

 
     
 

Exams, transcripts, certificates and diplomas

 

- Schedules for examination differ from program to program.


- Two copies of the transcripts and certificates will be sent to the International Office of the institutions belonging to the international of exchange students – one for the university’s file keeping, one for the students’ personal use.

- Dual-degree students will be granted a diploma. Please pick up the documents at the International Office of the sending institutions.


- Transcripts, certificates and/or diploma of non-exchange students shall be picked up by the students in person or by his/her representative at the School of International Education.

 
     
 

Before departure

 

 

- Please check if you have provided accurate contact information to the relevant departments of UIBE in case we have any information and/or documents to send you.


- Please check if you have made the payment for your housing, water, gas and other facilities and have returned university belongings.
