Memorandum of Understanding signed between UIBE and SAF (The Study Abroad Foundation)
- On the morning of Jan 21, 2008, Prof. John Belcher, President of SAF (The Study Abroad Foundation), and Ms. Theresa Li, Director of SAF Mainland China, paid a visit to UIBE. Dr. Lin Guijun, Vice President of UIBE, and Mr. Xia Haiquan, Deputy Director of International Relations, met with the guests and finally both parties entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to provide more study-abroad opportunities for students.
- Based on mutual understanding, UIBE would join SAF International University Network and SAF would supply support services throughout the period of the program including information, recruitment, admission, insurance, housing, financial support, etc.
- The MOU provides that undergraduates in UIBE are encouraged to apply for participation in foreign study and communication programs supported by SAF. According to the conditions of the MOU, The MOU also agrees on credit transfer where the credits gained from similar courses during the short-term study in foreign universities could be transferred to UIBE.
- The SAF(www.studyabroadfoundation.org)was established in 2000 and is an Indiana, USA chartered non-profit organization with an independent Board of Directors. The SAF’s primary goal is to provide high quality overseas study opportunities, plus academic and personal support services, for qualified undergraduate students from China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan seeking to earn academic credit through study abroad programs.
- The Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University, IFSA-Butler assisted in the establishment of the SAF as part of its mission to strengthen international student mobility. The IFSA-Butler is itself a non-profit organization which was founded in 1988 and is today a network of over 200 universities in 13 countries. Every year approximately 4,000 American and Canadian students participate in the IFSA-Butler’s study abroad programs.
- The SAF offers integrated study abroad programs at nearly fifty universities and colleges in six English-speaking countries. The programs include extensive academic and personal support services that assist students from the time they apply until after they return home. The SAF currently operates semester and year programs in the US and Canada, England, Scotland and Ireland, and Australia and New Zealand.
