St. Thomas Delegation Visited UIBE
- On November 19, 2007, at the invitation of UIBE, the delegation led by Dr. Angeline Barrenta-Herman, Associate Vice President of St. Thomas University visited UIBE. Other members of the delegation were Dr. Susan J. Huber, Dean of College of Applied Professional Studies and School of Education; Dr. Kristie Bunton, Chair of Department of Communication and Journalism of College of Arts & Science and Ms. Georgia Stavig Fisher, Director of Undergraduate Programs of Opus College of Business.
- The delegation arrived at UIBE on the morning of November 19 then they toured about UIBE campus and TBC. Afterwards the guests held friendly discussions with Mr. He Xiangmin, Director of International Relations and Dr. Wang Zhihui, Assistant Dean of International Business School. The guests had deep impression on UIBE’s campus and international academic atmosphere.
- Dr. Lin Guijun, Vice President of UIBE met with the delegation. Dr. Wang Lifei, Dean of School of International Studies attended the meeting. Dr. Lin Guijun and Dr. Herman delivered a speech respectively. They sang high praise of the 17-year collaboration between UIBE and St. Thomas and expressed their wish to cooperate in a more broad way. UIBE faculty who had studied in St. Thomas recalled their experiences and expressed their gratitude to St. Thomas University for its selfless help during their stay there.
- On the afternoon of November 19, the delegation went to School of International Studies and held concrete discussions on their cooperation. Dean Wang Lifei briefed on the faculty and majors of the School of International Studies and proposed the framework of communication. He mentioned UIBE’s wish to invite Professors of St. Thomas to teach in UIBE and to send UIBE teachers to St. Thomas University for their improvement. He also wished to expand the exchange program of undergraduate students.
- Vice President Herman expressed that currently St. Thomas University was internationalizing its campus and wished to enhance cooperation with UIBE. She said St. Thomas University would send more students to UIBE in the future.
- At the end of the visit, Vice President Herman said this was the first time for her and her colleges to come to China. The visit impressed them deeply. They would take back home the hospitality, friendship and the pioneering sprits of UIBE, making the cooperation between the two universities the modal of Chinese and American Higher Education Institutions.
- Minnesota is located in the Mid-Western part of America. It is the 12th greatest States in the US, with its average family income ranking 9th throughout US. It boasts of rich natural and educational resources. The Capital city St. Paul and Minneapolis constitute the famous Twin Cities of America. Many headquarters of multinational corporations are located there, such as Cargill, 3M, Northwest Airlines, Target Corporation, Best Buy.
- UIBE has kept a friendly communication with the Higher Education Institutes of Minnesota for the past years, with near 20 years cooperation with the renowned St. Thomas University. Since 1990, St. Thomas has established communication relationship with UIBE. Over 10 UIBE teaching faculty and administrative staff spent 10 months at St. Thomas University in the last two decades.
