Overview

 

The School of Insurance at UIBE is one of the earliest academic programs dedicated to international risk management education and research around China. With more than 20 years’ development, the school has consistently ranked at the top among universities in China, making great achievements in education and research in international risk management & insurance and Social Security.


The School of Insurance is comprised of three departments and two research centers as part of its strategy to offer innovative teaching and research programs. The three departments include: Department of Risk Management and Insurance, Department of Employee Benefits and Social Security and Department of Insurance Actuary. The research centers are: Center for Insurance Law Research and Center for China Risk Management and Insurance Research. The School offers undergraduate programs in two majors: Risk Management and Insurance, Labor and Social Security; and graduate program and PhD program in Finance (specialty in Insurance).


The School of Insurance prides itself on the quality of its faculty, with 80% holding PhD's with overseas academic institutions, as well as professional experience. Many well-known experts and scholars have been hired as part-time professors.


The SIRM is home to the council of the Insurance Institute of China, and offers training in insurance designated by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC). We have built broad cooperation with a number of insurance companies and organizations. Many insurance firms have launched scholarships and assistantships at our school.

The Prudential Reading Room sponsored by the U. K. Prudential Insurance Company is one of the best insurance data centers in China's universities.


We have established extensive cooperation and communication relationships with distinguished overseas universities, such as the School of Business at University of Wisconsin (US), School of Law at University of Connecticut(US), School of Business at University of Teesside (UK), School of Business at University of Sydney (AU) and School of Finance at University of International Business (Vietnam).


Our goal is to pursue the motto of "first-class education, first-class discipline, first-class faculty, and first-class management"; to help students build a knowledge structure with both a solid foundation and wide scope; to cultivate top-ranking talents with comprehensive and practical qualifications required in the fields of international risk management, insurance and social insurance.

2. Application Process


(1) Application date:
A. Bachelor’s program: April 1 — May 31 each year
B. Master’s program: Oct. 15 - Dec. 15 each year
(2) Required Application Documents (in English or Chinese):
A. UIBE Application Form
B. A copy of highest graduation certificate and transcripts
C. Letter of guardianship and a copy of guardian’s passport or ID
D. A copy of Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) results (for courses offered in Chinese only)
-For Bachelor’s program: scoring at Elementary Level C above
-For Master’s program: scoring at Intermediate level C above
E. A copy of passport or identification card
F. Two passport size photographs
G. Two reference letters from the applicant's associate professors or the level above (for applicants applying for master’s program only)

3. Entrance Examination


(1) Bachelor's program:
A. Test time: the first ten days of June each year
B. Test subjects:
---Chinese Language (listening and written exam)

---Assessment Exam (including English, math and basic aptitudes in Chinese history and culture)
---Interview
(2) Master's program:
A. Test time: the first days of January each year
B. Test subjects:
--- Chinese Language (written exam)
--- Interview on specialized knowledge


4. Disclosure of Admission Results


Those applicants who have passed the examinations will be published on the website of School of International Education of UIBE. To secure the study place, applicants must submit an advance payment of RMB 4000, which will be accounted as a part of tuition upon registration.

Academic Research

 

SBF puts its research focus on important theoretic and practical problems in economics and finance. It has completed many research projects on national and provincial level, such as National Social Science and Science Fund Project, Ministry of Education Research Project, etc. In addition, the school has also undertaken many research projects with several international financial organizations, domestic banks and non-bank financial institutions. The research achievements have made a significant impact on Chinese financial area in terms of theory, reform and development.

 
     
 

Cooperation and Exchange

 

SBF has put a lot of weights on its international exchange programs. The school actively communicates and cooperates with international and other domestic universities, as well as with relevant research institutes. SBF has initiated various activities such as academic exchanges, teacher assignment and educational cooperation with leading international institutions such as The University of Birmingham, The University of Manchester, University of Victoria, Dalhousie University, Seton Hall University, Anglia Ruskin University from many countries or regions over the world. These activities have dramatically promoted the internationalization of SBF as well as the mutual understanding between SBF and its foreign counterparts.
