Department of Graduate Education

The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), a key state university under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education, is one of the first universities to be put on the list of "Project 211", a governmental program aimed at turning about 100 Chinese universities into exceptionally high quality academic institutions. Since the foundation of UIBE in 1951, its graduate education has witnessed more than 50 years of ups and downs. When China began to implement its academic degree system, the University of International Business and Economics became one of the first universities authorized by the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to grant master's degree (in 1981) and to grant doctoral degree (in 1984).

After years of development, the doctoral degrees that UIBE is now authorized to grant include International Trade, Finance, World Economics, and International Law. The master's degrees that can be granted include International Trade, Finance (including Insurance), World Economics, National Economics, Quantitative Economics, Industrial Economics, International Law, Science of Economic Law, Civil Law and Commercial Law, Corporate Management, Accounting, Technology Economy and Management, Administration Management, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in Foreign Languages, Japanese Language and Literature, German Language and Literature, and Arabic Language and Literature. There are also two professional degrees that UIBE can grant, namely Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Juries Master (JM).

UIBE's high level of professional education and its independence in designing educational programs was recognized in August 2002 when UIBE became one of the first universities authorized to carry out the Executive Master of Business Administration program. shows. Among all the programs, International Trade and International Law are two key subjects of the state, and Finance and Corporate Management are two key subjects of Beijing city. In addition, UIBE is authorized by the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to accept application for the master's degree by those, who hold a full-time job, with the equivalent of a postgraduate certificate.

The faculty of UIBE has a strong academic background, with not only experienced professors as leaders in their respective fields at home and abroad, but also excellent middle-aged and young teachers as pioneers standing at the fore front of their fields of studies. That is the reason why UIBE is able to establish its academic status of leadership in fields like foreign-related business, foreign languages, law, and so on.

UIBE takes "Erudition", "Credibility", "Exploration", and "Sincerity" as its motto and attaches great importance to developing the comprehensive quality of the students. The university creates good conditions and environment to achieve this goal: hi-tech teaching facilities like advanced multimedia classrooms, the university library with abundant books and magazines both in Chinese and in foreign languages and the thesis reference room established exclusively for graduate students, as well as academic periodicals initiated by the graduate students themselves and financially supported by the university. Moreover, the university provides as many opportunities for internships, making arrangements for the students to do research and work in businesses and institutions home and abroad.

The enrollment of graduate students increases year after year, reflecting the need for more professionals and researchers as China speeds opening-up and reform as well as its development in international commerce and trade. By September 2003, the number of registered graduate students in UIBE passed 2,500, some of whom come from overseas and regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, to study for their master's or doctoral degrees. By July 2003, more than 3,000 students have received degrees from the Graduate School, and they play important roles in the development of international commerce in China.

Some of the future goals of UIBE are to further its education reform, to broaden its scope of disciplines, to put its own advantages and characteristics into full play, and to further improve its quality of education, in order to cultivate more people of talent.

The Graduate School of the University of International Business and Economics was established in 1984. Under the supervision of the university, the administration of the Graduate School has been greatly improved. The Graduate School takes charge of the enrollment, academic affairs, administration and degree-granting of the postgraduates with six offices, namely the Enrollment Office, the Academic Affairs Office, the Academic Degree Office, the Student Affairs Office, the General Office and the Consultative Office.
