The cradle of international insurance
professionals
Department of Insurance is founded to adapt
the trend of Insurance Internationalization 15 years ago. And today, the
department is a unit under the direct leadership of the university, which
is set up on the base of the department of original UIBE and that of Finance
& Banking Institute of China. The new Department of Insurance takes
the advantages of the both sides, and is the leader in insurance education
among the universities in China. The department pursues survival and development
through giving prominence to its traits, which is: International Orientation,
emphasis on enhancing teachers' quality and improved teaching methods,
and it carries out full-scale undergraduate, master, doctor educations
and professional trainings to cultivate insurance professionals in the
21st century.
Department of Insurance in UIBE has established
broad communication and cooperation relationships with China & overseas
insurance institutes. Among these relations, the Prudential Reading Room
sponsored by U.K. Prudential Insurance Company is one of the best insurance
reading rooms in China's Universities; LOMA (Life Office Management Association)
Examination Center sponsored by U.S. JohnHancock Mutual Life Insurance
Company enjoys high reputation in the insurance industry; Japanese Actuarial
Examination Center sponsored by the Institute of Actuaries of Japan is
one of the two examination centers established by the institute in China;
and in 2003, the Examination Centers of Insurance Brokers Qualification
and Insurance Loss Adjusters Qualification are settled in our department
by Beijing office of China Insurance Regulatory Commission(CIRC).
At present, the faculty of the insurance
department is composed of 10 teachers, among which there are 2 professors,
6 associate professors and 2 instructors. And 60% of the young and middle
age teachers are PhD or PhD candidates with overseas academic experience.
The department has a research institute, the Canter for Insurance Laws
Research of UIBE. Focusing on both teaching and research is our style.
The department has published over 30 academic monographs and textbooks,
and over 100 academic papers. Presently, the teachers of the department
are compiling several textbooks for Beijing Municipal Education Commission;
and participating compiling textbooks for CIRC and Ministry of Personnel.
Moreover, the department has one national research project having been
approved and two projects being evaluated. In 2002, 5 young teachers in
our department awarded Fellowship for Teaching and Research of UIBE.
For the moment, the insurance department
sets only one specialty, Finance (Specialty of Insurance). The purpose
of the specialty is to cultivate future advanced professionals of insurance
operation and risk management adapting in domestic & international
insurance companies, insurance intermediary companies, insurance regulatory
institutes, social security institutes, financial institutes and the risk
management or finance departments of enterprises. Through the four years'
specialty training, the students are required to have good English skills
and solid law and mathematics base, to master the basic insurance theories
and methods, to be familiar with the knowledge relevant to economics,
finance and management, to be proficient in computer, and to have the
ability to adapt practical work and research work.
The specialty curricula includes: Risk Management
& Insurance, Insurance Economics, Property & Liability Insurance,
Casualty Insurance, Marine Insurance, Reinsurance, Actuary science, Insurance
Accounting, Social Security, Operations of Insurance Company, Insurance
Law.
For the overall development of students,
the department founded a variety of students societies such as Student
Union, Internet Information Department, Insurance Studying Group, etc.
and organized various intelligent contests, sports meet, and chess games,
which offers a broad space for students to show their talents. The activities,
including Welcoming Party, New Year Party and Talk between freshman and
higher grade students.
Moreover, each year the
department will select outstanding students to take LOMA examination free,
award outstanding students "Prudential Scholarship", and offer
"Wang Enshao Grant" to the students having economic difficulties.

Chen Xin (Male)
Dean, Department of Insurance and Insurance Law Research Centre, UIBE.
PhD Supervisor, Visiting Scholar of New York Insurance Institute. His
professional interests are teaching researching in Insurance Law and Policy
Provisions; His main published works include: International Trade Insurance,
Insurance Law, Law and Practice of Marine Insurance, Property and Liability

Huang Jingyang (Female)
Vice-Dean, Department of Insurance and Insurance Law Research Centre,
UIBE. MBA, American Graduate School of International Management, PhD of
Economics, UIBE. Her professional interests are in the International Risk
Management and Insurance; and she is in charge of cooperation researching
projects of UIBE and Gerling Insurance, LOMA Test Project sponsored by
U.S. John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, Japanese Actuarial Examination
Project sponsored by the Institute of Actuaries of Japan. Her main published
works include: International Cargo Marine Insurance , International Risk
Management and Insurance.
Zeng Lixin (Female)
Associate Professor, UIBE. Her professional interests are marine insurance
and reinsurance. Her main published works include: Marine Insurance.
Wang Guojun (Male)
Associate Professor, PhD, UIBE. He has conducted post-doctoral researches
at Insurance Development Institute of Korea. His professional interests
are insurance, social security and investment. His main published works
include: Economics of Insurance (translated work), Do You Insure Your
Fortunes? Research on China's Rural Insurance and Social Security, and
he has published over 40 essays on academic journals.
Tao Cunwen (Male)
Associate Professor of insurance UIBE.
His professional interests are commercial insurance, insurance accounting,
social security; his main teaching courses are life and health insurance,
insurance accounting. His main published works include: Insurance Accounting,
Life Insurance(chief author)
