About UIBE

The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade (BIFT), was founded in 1951. UIBE stood out as China's first institution of higher learning to prepare professionals for China's foreign economic relations and trade. In the early sixties, with the fast development of its programs of study, this Institute was designated as one of the four national institutions of higher learning by the Ministry of Higher Education.

At the beginning of 1983, the Institute of International Economic Management was merged into it by directive of the State Council. The Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade was officially inaugurated as the University of International Business and Economics on September 1, 1984.

In May 1995, UIBE was put on the list of "Project 211" universities, a governmental program aimed at helping 100 top Chinese universities to become the best academic institutions in the 21st century.

In June 2000, UIBE merged with the China Institute of Banking and Finance and embarked on a new stage of its development. The University strives to maintain the highest academic standards; it is a premier university whose faculty, staff, student body, curriculum and resources place it among China's outstanding institutions of higher learning. It emphasizes career-oriented, values-centered education.

The University offers thirteen master's and two doctoral degree programs in addition to twenty-two undergraduate major fields. The University is accredited by the Academic Degree Committee under the State Council.

In 1988 the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York acknowledged UIBE's granting the degree of Master Business Administration in International Trade, which leads to the recognition of the above program by all American universities. At present, UIBE has over 20,000 students from China and 600 international students from more than 30 countries.
