Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about HSK Online Registration
Q. 1. Where can I on-line register for HSK? The website of HSK online registration is http://www.hsk.org.cn. It would be ideal, but not required, for the computer to have a display resolution of 1024 X 768.
Q. 2. What are the tests that can get registered online? Please check “考试时间查询”(Test Date) in “考试安排”(Test Schedule) on the homepage. (See Picture I) If the columns of “网上报名开始”(Online Registration Starts) and “网上报名截止” (Online Registration Ends) are indicated with specified dates, candidates may register online. (See Note A of Picture I). If both columns mentioned are left empty, candidates may not get registered online. (See Note B of Picture I) Candidates can register for the following tests: HSK (Basic), HSK (Elementary-Intermediate) and HSK (Advanced).

Q. 3. What are the test centers where I can register online? Please select “中国大陆地区”(Mainland China) in “考点信息”(Test Center) on the homepage, you will arrive at what Picture II demonstrates. If “网上报名否”(Online Registration Available) is clicked, candidates may get registered online. (See Note A of Picture II)

Q.4. Can I get registered in a conventional way in the test center that offers online registration service? Sorry, you cannot. For more detailed information, please contact the test center.
Q.5. What do I need before the online registration? i) Candidates are required to open a bank account with e-commerce capability in one of the following nine banks: the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China; China Merchant Bank; China Construction Bank; Agricultural Bank of China; Bank of Beijing; China Minsheng Bank; Guangdong Development Bank; Hua Xia Bank; and Industrial Bank. ii) Candidates shall prepare a JPG file of less than 100 KB. It is required to be a 30 x 40 mm full-face photo without headwear.
Q.6. Am I supposed to use my own bank card? No. You may borrow the bank card from other people.
Q.7. How can I get access to the registration page? You can either click “网上报名” (online registration) on the homepage or go to “网上报名” (online registration) in “在线服务”(online service). (See Picture III)

Q.8. What is the procedure for online registration? To successfully register for HSK, you must complete all of these four steps in this consequence: ﹡register online ﹡log in and upload the photo ﹡make the reservation and pay the test fee ﹡claim the admission ticket in the test center
Q.9. Is it the same registration procedure for the Chinese minority candidates and candidates from other countries? No. Candidates of these categories should select different access. Candidates from other countries (including overseas Chinese) may register and log in as Note A of Picture IV indicates. Chinese minority candidates may refer to Note B of the same picture.
Q.10. What should I pay attention to during the registration? Picture V is the model registration page. All the empty fields are required to fill in/ select. Please note the following items: 1) User name: Candidates shall create their own users names. Each user name should be of less than 30 characters and comprised of numbers or/ and English letters. Special characters are not allowed to use here. Candidates are suggested to take the ID number of your passport or Resident’s ID of P. R. C. as the users names. 2) Password: Candidates shall create their own passwords. Each password should be of less than 15 characters and comprised of numbers or/ and letters. Special characters are not allowed to use here. It is very important for the candidates to remember the user name and the password during the registration. 3) Passport Number/ Resident’s ID Number: Candidates of other countries (including overseas Chinese) are required to input their passport number. Chinese minority candidates are supposed to provide their Resident’s ID number. You must make sure that they are true and accurate. Once you have submitted them to the system, you will not be allowed to change them. 4) Date of Birth: Please input the date of birth according to the format: yyyy-mm-dd. For instance, June 20th, 1980 should be input as: 1980-06-20. 5) Nationality: The list of countries is organized in pinyin order. As soon as “其他国家”(Other country or location) is selected, please enter the name of the country in the space provided. See Picture V. 6) Profession status: If “Yes” is selected in “是否在职” (Are you the candidate with a full-time job?) , candidates are required to continue to select the “所属行业” (Professions). See Picture V.
Picture V. Q.11. What should I do if I fail to get registered? Failed registration is normally due to the invalid user name. Under this circumstance, the user name is to be revised and submitted. Furthermore, all the entries on the registration page are required to be filled in or selected, otherwise, the registration cannot be completed either.
Q.12. How can I login? After the completion of registration, candidates should shut off the registration page and login on the registration sign-up page (See Note C of Picture IV). After you successfully log in, you will see a webpage like that in Picture VI.
Q.13. Can I change my registration information after I submit it to the registration system? Once submitted to the system, you will not be allowed to change your user name and your passport number/ Resident’s ID number. You can change any other information till the registration cut-off date. After log in, click “修改” (revise) button to change the information and your personal information will be revised on clicking “提交” (submit) button. (See Note A of Picture VI)

Q.14. What if I submit wrong passport number/ Resident’s ID number? Since you cannot change your user name and passport number, such information should be true and accurate before registration. Please abandon your current user name and register anther one if you have submitted the wrong passport number.
Q.15. What should I do if I cannot input Chinese characters? Candidates are advised to know how to input Chinese characters, especially about your relevant information in Chinese. Or, you may ask someone who can type in Chinese characters to enter the relevant information and save it in advance so that you can copy such information during the online registration. You may also type in your English name in the field where you are required to input your Chinese name.
Q.16. How can I upload the photo? After login, click “浏览” (browse) at the up right corner of the webpage and select the photo file. Then, click “上传照片” (upload the photo). (See Note B of Picture VI). Confirmation concerning the completion of the upload will be displayed in a box.
Q.17. How can I upload the photo in a cyber cafe where I cannot use my flash disk? You may send your photo into your e-mail box in advance and use the photo from the e-mail box during registration.
Q.18. Can I adjust and edit the photo after uploading? Yes. You may check the photo you have submitted. If you are not satisfied with it, you can upload your photo again. Attention: Twisted photos are due to the inappropriate proportion of the photo (it should be a 30 x 40 mm photo). To edit such photos, you may use the “画图” (Paint) tool in “附件” (Accessories) or soft wares like Photoshop. After importing the new photo, please refresh the page and check the photo.
Q.19. How can I access to the HSK reservation and payment page? After successfully submitting the photo, you may get “您已经提交照片，点击这里进入考试预订和交费页面... ...”(You have submitted the photo. Please click here to make reservation and payment.) Click the button and make the reservation and pay the test fee. (See Note C of Picture VI)
Q.20. What should I do to make the reservation? Go to the reservation and payment page (See Picture VII). Select the test type, test date, test venue and click "预定所选考试" (Confirm the Reservation). With that, you may see the instruction that reads “"您目前有效的预定（但还没有交费）如下，请及时交费。"(Your valid reservation is as follows: Please pay the test fee on the specified time) Detailed information concerning the candidate’s reservation be shown in the box. (See Picture VII)
Picture VII. Q.21. Does the reservation always remain valid? The validity period of the reservation is 24 hours. The reservation will be canceled if payment has not been made within 24 hours. Candidates may remake the reservation and pay the test fee.
Q.22. As to one single test, can I make the reservation in more than one test centers? As to one single test, duplicated reservation is not allowed.
Q.23. Can I change the test center after the reservation? Sorry, you cannot. If you need to change the test center, you are supposed to cancel the current reservation, (See Note A of Picture VIII), and reserve in another test center.

Q.24. How can I pay the test fee? Click the“交费” (Pay the test fee) button (See Note B of Picture VIII) and you will be directed to the payment page (See Picture IX). Click “网上交费”(Online payment) button and you will arrive at the page which you can select the targeted bank. (See Picture X) Click the bank (Note A of Picture X) and the amount of money you are to be paid will be shown on this page. Then input the bank account number and the pin number. If you are not familiar with the online payment procedure, please click “帮助”(Help) button (See Note B of Picture X).

Q.25. How do I know the payment has been made? Normally, the HSK registration system will instantly provide your payment confirmation page after the payment has been made. (See Picture XI) If “交费成功”(You have successfully made the payment.) is shown, the test you have reserved has been automatically transferred to “已经交费的考试”(The test that has been paid for). (See Picture XII) To ensure the safety of paying online, you are advised to check your balance of your bank account before the payment and recheck it after the payment as well.

Q.26. What are other feedbacks that I am likely to receive after the payment? After the payment, candidates might receive other three directions as follows: 1) “交费成功，但因网络延时，预订还没有转变为已经交费状态。请先退出系统，稍后再查询自己预订和交费的状况，您的交费情况在得到对帐后会自动更新。”(You have successfully made the payment. Because of the delay of the network connection, your reservation status has not been updated. Please log off the system and check your reservation and payment status later. The relevant information will be updated with the account being checked.) 2) “未收到银行通知。是否成功交费，请检查您的银行卡余额。如果成功交费，银行卡余额会有相应数量的减少。系统自动对帐后，您的报名交费状态会自动更新。”(The registration system does not receive the payment confirmation from your bank. Please check your account to see if relevant sum of money has been deducted. The reduction of the balance on your bank account indicates the completion of the payment. Your payment status will be updated in accordance with the regular account checking.) 3) “交费失败，请确认你的账号、密码和余额。”(Payment failed. Please verify your account number, password and balance.) To ensure the safety of your paying online, you are advised to check your balance of your bank account before the payment and recheck it after the payment as well.
Q.27. Are there any information that I am supposed to take a note during the payment? Yes. We recommend the candidates take a note of the transaction number (See Picture VII and Note A of Picture XII) to make further enquires or claim the admission ticket in the future.

Q.28. Is the payment refundable? The payment is non-refundable. Please think carefully before you make the payment.
Q.29. Can I change the test center after the payment? Sorry, you cannot. You may change the test center before the payment. Please refer to Q.23.
Q.30. Must I go to the test center to claim the admission ticket after the online payment? Yes. You should bring the transaction number (See Picture XII) and passport/ Resident’s ID card to claim the admission ticket. Q.31. When shall I claim the admission ticket? Normally the second week after the online registration cut-off date. Relevant notification will be put on the website. Q.32. What should I do if I find the personal information on the admission ticket is incorrect? You are advised to check your personal information carefully on claiming the admission ticket. You may change the incorrect information in the test center.
